Kutwa tees his team to bag Pro-Am prize

Kenya’s professional golfer Hesbon Kutwa and his amateur team emerged the overall team winners in the Safari Tour Pro-Am tournament played at the Par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa on Saturday.
Kutwa’s team comprising amateurs R. Shah, Glady’s Mutisya and Harsimran Kaur carded a total of 87 points to emerge the winners and walked home with Sh30,000.
Zambia’s Pro Sydney Wemba who teamed with amateurs D. Pindolia, Patel Raju and H. Halai brought a countback score of 84 points to claim the runners up slot after tying in the same score with third placed team winners of Tranos Muradzikwa and amateurs Said Bajaber, Duncun Kingo’ri and Salim Bajaber.
16-year-old Rasmeet Kaur playing off handicap 23 was the Individual winner with 42 points.
At the Kenya Railways Club on the same day home club’s handicap 23 golfer Irene Kimeu, carded a round of 41 points during her club’s leg of the 2021 NCBA Golf Series to be crowned the overall winner.
She becomes the first lady overall winner in the series, joining 17 other overall winners in the tournament which include two junior golfers.
She was two points better than her nearest challenger handicap 13 Joe Ngacha who carded a round of 39 points to emerge the winner in the men’s category, ahead of handicap 24 Joe Gogo who finished the round with 39 points to claim the men’s runner-up spot.
Among the ladies, handicap 21, Eunice Kilonzo, emerged the winner with 39 points ahead of handicap 23 Doris Night who recorded a similar haul of points to emerge runner-up in the category.
The junior winner was handicap 8 Paash Padam with 34 points as NCBA’s Group Director for Retail Banking, Tirus Mwithiga won the staff prize on 33 points.
Focus now shifts to the Royal Nairobi Golf Club for the 19th leg in the Series which will be played on Saturday, October 30 and will be the third event before the series wraps up at Karen, Muthaiga Golf Club and Ruiru Sports Club.
At Ruiru Sports Club course also in the same day, handicap 17 Suleiman Kamau posted 42 points to emerge the men winner of the October Fest Golf tournament.
At Sigona Golf Club course also in the same day the Jumbo Golf tournament was won by handicap 23 Ann Kabuga who carded 46 points.
Handicap 21 Sunny Syan was the runners up on 43 points and handicap 23e Ramesh Patel settled for the third slot with 43 points.
At Thika Sports Club, Mumbi Njuguna scored 42 stableford points to claim the Captain (Maria Muthee) prize over the weekend.
Playing of handicap 30, Mumbi had a great outing on the par-72 course tilting 6008yards during the tournament that saw a field of 246 golfers participate. [ Additional reporting by Sammy Mose]
