Golf: Standard Media group partners with Amref in Golf Tourney at Karen

Tom Simba survived a count back to emerge the overall winner of this year’s fistula challenge golf tournament played at the par 72 Karen Country Golf club in Nairobi on Friday.
Simba carded an excellent count back score of 43 stableford points to lead the leader board in the day-long 18 hole tournament at the 6972 yards course.
Simba’s victory came after sinking a late lone birdie at the par four-twelfth hole in the back nine with additional nine level pars rolled against mixed bogey shots in the rest of both nines.
“Today we are playing for a worthy cause, indeed this is a good victory and I thank my playing partners, the sponsors, the club and organizers for hosting such a wonderful event,” said Simba.
However, it was not a smooth victory for Simba who returned the same scores with runner-up Norah Njeri.
“I played an easy game and it has been such a wonderful day out there at the course. I ended with a good score and lost on count back but this has not brought me down because today’s event was about extending hands to assist the society,” said Njeri.
Dorothy Nthenya who also produced good results was third placed on a score of 40 points.
The tournament organised by Amref Health Africa under the Fistula Challenge Charity brand and partnered by among others the Standard Group PLC was graced by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and Cabinet Secretary for Health Sicily Kariuki.
Others are Amref Health Africa Director Dr Meshak Ndirangu, Board Chairman Paul Kasimu, fistula champion Ruth Punyua and the Standard Group Chief Executive Orlando Lyomu, who also played in the tournament.
The charity tournament was used to raise funds for Amref’s Health Service provisions.
