Champions Highway Secondary School and Dagoretti Mixed on Friday won their respective semi-final matches to inch closer to retaining their Nairobi Region titles.

Highway, who are also the reigning national champions, edged out former holders Upper Hill 2-1 in a nerve-wracking match played at Nairobi School. They will on Saturday clash with Olympic High School in the final. Olympic beat St Patrick’s 1-0 to book their place in the final.

The clash will be a repeat of last year’s final. Olympic will be looking to avenge their 1-3 loss that denied them a ticket to the nationals.

Dagoretti Mixed will be out to extend the regional reign for one more year when they take on Soweto Academy in the girls' final.

Dagoretti thrashed Moi Girls Nairobi 4-0, while Soweto saw off Beth Mugo Secondary School 2-1.

Dagoretti coach Joseph Orao said that his girls will settle for nothing less than victory, for they have bigger goals to achieve this year.

“They are determined to be in Kakamega for both the national and East Africa games, and that is their biggest motivation. They have promised to give their best and make it happen, and since they want this ticket so bad, I’m convinced they will win,” Orao said.

In girls’ volleyball, it will be a repeat of the last two regional finals when champions Soweto Academy face off with Brown Hill Secondary School.

Brown Hill will be out to try and end Soweto’s reign that began in 2016 after they beat reigning national champions Kwanthanze Secondary School in the now defunct Metropolitan Region.

In the semis, Soweto made light work of Beth Mugo Secondary School, beating them in straight sets of 25-10, 25-11, and 25-5, while Brown Hill saw off Kenya High 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-9).

Brown Hill has lost to Soweto in the last two finals and will be looking to finally get it right and book their ticket to the national games.
