Gor Mahia's charge towards another attempt to retain the FKF Premier League title was slowed down on Thursday evening when relegation-fighting FC Talanta bagged a shocking 1-0 win over the defending champions in a midweek match played at Dandora Stadium.

Emmanuel Osoro's first half strike was enough to hand Talanta maximum points, three points that lifted them out of the relegation zone.

A win for Gor would have seen the champions close the gap between them and leaders Tusker to within a point.

However, it was Talanta who benefited more as they moved from second last to 14th with 29 points.

The defending champions are currently third in the 18-team standings with 47 points, four points behind league leaders Tusker sitting top with 51 points. Kenya Police are second with 49 points.

Osoro's goal saw the forward close in on Ryan Ogam and Moses Shumah in the race for the golden boot as he now sits two goals shy of the top scorers.

With seven matches left until the end of the 2024-2025 season, the battle for this season's title will be intense with Tusker, Police and Gor all in contention alongside dark horses Shabana.
