Tusker moved to the summit of the FKF Premier League over the weekend after capitalising on the fall of their closest challengers, Kenya Police and Gor Mahi, as the title race intensifies with seven matches left before the end of the 2024-2025 season.

The Brewers, who were second coming into the weekend, narrowly edged out Nairobi City Stars 1-0, thanks to Denis Wanjala's first-half strike.

Victory lifted Tusker to the top with 51 points, leapfrogging the then leaders Kenya Police, who lost 1-0 to Ulinzi Stars last Friday.

"I am happy to have helped Tusker win. Scoring in the penultimate match was important not only for me but also the team as we fight towards winning the title. The race is wide open, and we need all the maximum points we can get. A game at a time," Wanjala said after the win.

Police now sit second with 49 points, followed by defending champions Gor Mahia with 47 points.

Gor, the record Kenyan champions, however, have a chance of cutting Tusker's lead to a point,t having played a game less than both the brewers and Police.

Shabana has also joined in on the race, albeit in the final hurdle, after their 4-2 win over FC Talanta saw them move to fourth in the standings with 43 points, eight points off leaders Tusker.

Nairobi City Stars and Murang'a SEAL hold the bottom two spots and if nothing changes in the next two months, will be relegated to the second-tier National Super League.

City Stars are bottom with 24 points, two behind SEAL, who have the same number of points as Talanta, who occupy the relegation and promotion playoff spot.

Bidco United (27 points) and Posta Rangers (28 points) are also not saf,e as the coming weeks are set to redefine the status of the bottom teams.
