Nyong'o welcomes spectators to Kisumu for CECAFA tournament

Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o on Friday welcomed everyone to the 2023 Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) under-18 boy's championships set to kick off on Saturday in Kisumu.

Kenya's Rising Stars will get the matches underway when they play Sudan at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium from 12 pm.

"I wish to take this opportunity to welcome to Kisumu all the teams participating in this tournament and their officials.

"The tournament kicks off tomorrow at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium from mid-day and I want to confirm that the facility is ready," said Nyong'o.

Kenya has been placed in Group A alongside Somalia, Rwanda, Sudan and Djibouti and will face Sudan in their opening match.

"This is exciting news and a great honor to the City of Kisumu, which is no doubt the headquarters of football in the region, having produced many local and international football stars.

"This is the first international tournament being held in Kisumu in many years," said the governor.

Nyong'o thanked the Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, the CECAFA governing Council and the Football Kenya Federation for choosing Kisumu to host this great tournament alongside Kakamega.

Group B consists of Tanzania, Zanzibar, South Sudan, Uganda.

All group A matches will be played in Kisumu while group B matches will be Kakamega based.

The winners of each group will face off against the runners up in the next round which will be the semifinals that will take place on December 5th in Kisumu.
