Gor Mahia to pay Sh1.9 million for vandalism

Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia will have to pay Sh1,995,000 to Sports Kenya for vandalism of Kasarani Stadium last Saturday.

The barren 0-0 draw against Murang'a SEAL left benches, chairs and panels pieces flying all over the stadium after alleged irate K'Ogalo fans were irked by the numerous unfair fouls they felt center referee Kevin Amol awarded Murang'a Seal.

In fact, after the final whistle, Gor fans attacked their Murang'a counterparts forcing police officers to fire teargas to calm matters down.

According to a letter seen by the Standard and signed by Sports Kenya Director General Pius Metto, Gor fans are accused of destroying 295 seats, 12 PWD wooden panels and four electrical panes.

"During the match between Gor Mahia and Murang'a SEAL played on November 11 at Moi Sports Center Kasarani, violence erupted the match where Gor fans caused mayhem and damaged 295 seats, 12 PWD wooden panels and four electrical panes all work at Sh1,995,000," said Metto in the letter.

In the letter that was copied to Gor chairman Ambrose Rachier ,the Cabinet Secretary for Sports Ababu Namwamba, Principal Secretary to the state department, and the Football Kenya Federation President, K'Ogalo have been directed to pay the amount to facilitate repair works.
