The exciting football season is back and many fans across the world are ecstatic about the beautiful game.

Kenya is not left behind in this thrill as the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League enters the second round this weekend.

English Premier League legend Augustine 'Jay-Jay' Okocha is one of the global stars in the country to inject support into the local league.

The former Nigerian midfield wizard has urged the federation to repackage the local league so as to attract Kenyan spectators who are so enthusiastic about the English Premier League (EPL).

He attributed this phenomenon to proper football structures across Europe that are endearing the game to the fans.

"African nations like Kenya need to go back to the drawing board to organise their leagues well," Okocha told Standard Sports.

"They should put up facilities that develop the sport, players should be inducted into the game earlier to master the basics which are key fundamentals in elite football.

"Currently, South Africa and North Africa are really trying, their fans no longer wait for the seasons in Europe to enjoy football."

Okocha was speaking in Nairobi on Friday where he accompanied the Premier League trophy that is on a two-day tour in the country, courtesy of Rubis Energy Kenya and Castrol.

Fans will have an opportunity to view and take photos with the cup at the Carnivore Grounds in Nairobi today.
