St Anthony's Boys Kitale also qualified for the nationals set for next month in Kakamega after winning the boys' football final in Rift Valley.

St Anthony's were crowned champions after coming from behind to nail Christ the King 3-1 in the final in Nyahururu, on Saturday.

Peter Ngugi gave Christ the King a surprise 1-0 lead in the 12th minute against St. Anthony's, before Adrian Kibet, who has been trending on social media since the Term Two games began at the sub county level, restored parity in the 18th minute.

In the final half, St Anthony's decided it was their time to shine through Stanley Waswa who gave the Trans Nzoia County champions a 2-1 lead in the 58th minute.

Another cagey displayed followed before Omuse sealed the win for coach Peter Mayoyo, who will be looking to reclaim the national title they won four years ago, when they compete in this year's national games, which will be held in Kakamega.

Speaking after the win, Mayoyo said he is happy with his team's good show and since they are now one step away from reaching their East Africa games target, they resume their training sessions next week.

Mayoyo believes they can win both the national and East Africa title, if they play their cards well.

"Congratulations to the boys. It has been long coming and I'm grateful for the gift of patience which helped us through the game. We conceded first but never panicked," he said.

"Patience and being clinical in front of goal pushed us through and we can't wait to get to Kakamega. It's the nationals and we have to be on our best. The goal remains to play in the East Africa games."

In the girls' category, Wiyeta saw off Nasokol 2-0 to retain the Rift Valley football title for an impressive 10th time on the trot.

Praxidies Shivikwa and Edina Wonderful scored in the 25th and 33rd minutes to seal the win for Wiyeta, who are also the national football champions.
