St Mary's Yala, Ambira and Barding bag mixed results in Siaya County games

Heavyweights in the ongoing Siaya County Secondary School games at Maranda High School and Nyamira Girls were expecting favorable results.
But in the end, they ended up posting mixed results in football, volleyball, rugby and netball on Thursday.
In football, county champions Barding failed to sparkle after being held to a 0-0 draw by Ugenya High School in their opening Group A match.
The second pool match was marred by chaos after fans invaded the pitch in the match pitting Ambira High School and Usenge High School. Usenge were leading 1-0 before Ambira equalised, a goal that was disallowed for offside by the centre referee, which prompted irate fans to invade the pitch in protest.
In Group B, Wagai pulled the upset of the day after edging out St Mary's School Yala 1-0.

The win saw them top the pool alongside Lieta, who saw off Siaya Township 2-1.
In netball, four-time national champions Obambo Girls made their intentions of returning to the top clear after completing a comfortable 21-10 win over Nyawara Girls in their opening match.
Obambo Girls are in Group A that also consists of Sega and Nyamira Girls. Obamb, who last won the national title in 2017, have had a roller-coaster ride in the past six years. It has been Kaya Tiwi's moment to shine, save for their last year's loss to Kobala Secondary.
Apart from 2017, Obambo also won the title three years in a row from 2013, 2014 and 2015.
"We are ready this year. The team is fairly good. We have been out for the last six years doing rebuilding after the exit of some of our key players and also the two-year bread due to Covid-19 pandemic," said Obambo coach Eddy Oremo.
"It's good we have started with a win and now we have to maintain the momentum and ensure we win the county title and make the next step to the regionals."
In the other result, Nyamira hammered Sega Girls 26-8.
In volleyball, Sidok thrashed St Mary's Yala 3-0, Nyagondo edged Jera 3-1, Raliew saw off Nyasanda 3-2 as Nyangoma defeated Mulaha 3-0.
In rugby Sevens, hosts Maranda lost 15-0 to Sawagongo, Yala cruised past Sirembe 44-0 as Chianda schooled Ugenya High 27-0.
Other results saw Ambira thrash Barding 50-5, Maranda bounced back to edge Sirembe 38-0, Yala edged Sawagongo 52-0, Ambira won 48-0 against Ugenya High and Chianda picked a 26-0 win over Barding.
In Kisumu County, Nyakach Girls will face off against Nyakoko Mixed in the finals of girls' under-19 football. Nyakoko edged out Kudho 2-1 in the semifinals as Nyakach Girls hammered Kasaam 9-0 in the other semis.
In the boys' category, Maseno School were dumped out of the games at the group stage after losing 1-0 to Kisumu Day in their crucial Group B match.
Kisumu Day will now play Agai in the semifinal as Onjiko High School face off against Nyakoko.
