Elvis Rupia on Wednesday rewrote history after breaking the 47-year-old Kenya Premier League (now FKF Premier League) goal scoring record.

Rupia scored a brace in Kenya Police's 4-1 victory over already relegated Vihiga Bullets, two goals that saw him go past Maurice 'Sonyi' Ochieng record he set in 1976.

Sonyi scored a record 26 goals in 1976 to lead Gor Mahia to win the title unbeaten alongside other greats including Allan Thigo, James Kadir, Maurice Ole Tunda among others.

Today, Rupia has done it while playing for Police who moved third in the FKF Premier League standings with one match left.

Police have 63 points, four points behind leaders Gor Mahia who are in the lead to win his years title.

Defending champions Tusker are second with 66 points.

Rupia passed Benson Omalla who has 25 goals. Omalla has found the going tough in the past few games.
