Vihiga Queens are the 2022-2023 Kenya Women's Premier League champions.

The Vihiga County based outfit saw off title-rivals Gaspo Women 2-1 in a dead rubber match played at Police Sacco Stadium where they lifted the title in front of their fans on Saturday.

Vihiga Queens had sealed their title credentials last week when they defeated Nakuru City Queens 2-1 at the Nakuru showgrounds.

Despite playing just as a formality, Harambee Starlets' Janet Moraa made sure Vihiga will lift their crown in style after scoring a double as Adrine Birungi scored Gaspo's consolation.

Vihiga finish top with 55 points, seven points ahead of Gaspo who finish the season second.

Speaking after the win, Vihiga head coach Boniface Nyamunyamu said they have shifted their focus on the upcoming Cecafa Club Champions League qualifiers set for July in Uganda.

Nyamunyamu hailed his charges for their resilience through a challenging season and urged them to swiftly focus on the Uganda tourney that also doubles up as the qualifier for the third edition of CAF Womens Champions League slated for Cote d'Ivoire later this year.

"Congratulations to the girls for leaving it all on the field every day. This team has endured a lot and am happy to lead such a mentally strong team that is hungrier for victory every day despite the challenges we face behind our smiles as champions.

"However, focus now turns to the Cecafa title in Kampala, whereby we must clinch the header to book our journey to Morocco for the continental showpiece.

"We need a solid side to conquer Cecafa, considering the tough teams from the hosts and Tanzania. Training starts tomorrow as we hope to rope in a few new players if resources come by," said Nyamunyamu.

In 2021, Vihiga Queens defeated Central Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) 2-1 in the CECAFA Zonal qualifiers to qualify for the inaugural CAF Women's Champions League set for Cairo, Egypt.

Vihiga despite qualifying again for the Cecafa qualifiers missed out of the Caf Champions League last year due to the impending FFIFA ban previously imposed on Kenya.
