Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has missed the first day of pre-season training due to ‘family reasons’, according to reports.

The Portuguese star was due back at Carrington with the rest of his United teammates on Monday ahead of their tour of Thailand and Australia on Friday.

The Athletic reports that Ronaldo will not be at Manchester United training today due to “family reasons”,  which has been accepted by manager Erik ten Hag.

The Portugal international wants to leave Old Trafford this summer, just a year after moving from Juventus.

The 37-year-old is said to be unhappy that he will not be playing in the Champions League next season, with United only qualifying for the Europa League - a competition he has never played in.

United were reportedly caught off guard when it emerged Ronaldo wanted out, with the 37-year-old attracting interest from both Chelsea, Real Madrid, Roma, PSG and Bayern Munich.

Ronaldo grabbed 24 goals in 38 games last season including 18 in the Premier League - the third-highest scorer in the division.
