Kakamega Homeboyz have opened an eight-point lead at the top of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League standings after 23 rounds played.

Homeboyz extended their lead with a hard fought 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars at the Thika Sub County Stadium on Thursday. Brian Eshihanda scored the winning goal.

The Kakamega based club have now amassed 49 points with their closest challengers Tusker on 41 points from the same number of matches. On the other hand, Ulinzi Stars poor show in the league continues as they sit a distant 14th on the log with 26 points.

Nairobi City Stars are third on 38 points despite their 2-1 defeat to Bandari on Thursday.

KCB follow on 37 points same as Bandari.

Posta Rangers moved to sixth on the log after their 3-2 victory over relegation bound Mathare United also played on Thursday.

Kennedy Ochieng' and Donald Ange were on target for Mathare United while Timothy Otieno, Jackson Dwang' and Brian Otieno scored for the mailmen.

The loss continues to diminish hope of the Slum Boys surviving the axe at the end of the season. They have collected a paltry 11 points from 23 matches.

Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia are a distant seventh on 35 points but with a game in hand against Wazito set to be played on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Nzoia Sugar’s quest for survival continued to improve after Felicien Okanda struck inside the opening quarter hour as Nzoia saw off Vihiga Bullets 1-0.

Nzoia Sugar are still 15th on 25 points but are yet to lose under Salim Babu who has been in charge of seven matches since his appointment early last month.

Mathare United are bottom (11 points) followed by Vihiga Bullets (15 points).
