Kakamega Homeboyz have opened a nine-point gap at the top of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League after seeing off struggling Vihiga Bullets 1-0 at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Wednesday.

Yema Mwana scored the winning goal in the 24th minute to hand Homeboyz their 13th win of the season.

This was the fifth consecutive win for coach Bernard Mwalala's charges, whose only loss of the season was a 1-0 defeat to FC Talanta on January 4.

Relegation threatened Bullets remained 17th on the log with 12 points, seven point adrift from safety zone.

The win saw Homeboyz stretch their lead at the helm of the log to 46 points, nine more than second placed Tusker.

Defending champions Tusker on Tuesday thrashed Wazito 3-0 to leapfrog Nairobi City Stars to second in the table. Deogratious Ojok scored a second half brace as Ibrahim Joshua also got into the score sheet in the victory.

Nairobi City Stars dropped points at the Ruaraka Grounds in Nairobi where they lost 2-1 to Posta Rangers.

The defeat saw City Stars drop to third in the log on 35 points.

The Slum Boys Derby pitting Kariobangi Sharks against bottom placed Mathare United at the Moi International Stadium, Kasarani Annex ended in a 1-1 draw.

New Nzoia coach Salim Babu extended his unbeaten record to four games with a 1-1 draw against Bidco United at the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.
