Kakamega Homeboyz are leading the race to win their maiden Football Kenya Federation Premier League title after opening an eight-point gap over the weekend.

Homeboyz consolidated their lead at the top of the league standings with a convincing 3-1 win over Posta Rangers at Thika Sub County Stadium last Saturday.

Sylvester Owino, Stephen Opoku and David Okoth all scored in the opening half to hand Homeboyz their 12th win of the season.

Victory saw Homeboyz maintain their unbeaten run away from home and extend their lead at the top of the table to 43 points, eight points more than second-placed Nairobi city Stars.

With only 14 matches left to play, Homeboyz are certainly on the right track in their attempt to dethrone defending champions Tusker.

Their next four matches are against Vihiga Bullets, Bandari and Ulinzi Stars.

The highlight of the 20th round was relegation-threatened Vihiga Bullets who on Sunday moved out of the bottom place.

Bullets leapfrogged Mathare United after beating FC Talanta 2-1 at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega courtesy of goals from Nicholas Masaba and defender Zablon Cheloti.

The newbies have found it rough since being promoted in the top-flight league from the National Super League.

However, a second win of the season saw them move to 17th on 12 points, two more than Mathare who dropped to the bottom of the table after losing 3-0 to Nzoia Sugar.

Record champions Gor Mahia bounced back to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Ulinzi Stars at Moi Stadium in Kisumu where they have shifted their base.

This is after the FKF caretaker committee banned them from using Nyayo National Stadium or Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani due to crowd trouble.

High-flying Nzoia Sugar also picked points away with a 3-0 thrashing of relegation candidates Mathare United.

KCB remain winless in the last four matches following a barren draw against 2009 champions Sofapaka as AFC Leopards continue dropping points amid pay crisis at the club.
