Gor Mahia shifts base to Western for home matches

Gor Mahia has shifted its base and will host all its home matches at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega. have announced the shifting of their home fixtures from Nairobi County after chaos during a past match at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Confirming this, K'Ogalo Secretary-General Sam Ocholla said the club made the decision following the chaos that rocked its match two weeks ago at Kasarani.
"We are moving our games to Western Kenya, Kisumu, Buhkungu or Narok as we already know we will not be allowed to play at the Kasarani stadium because of the damages we caused,” said Ochola.
“The Sports Stadia Management wrote to us and wants us to bill the damages caused and report those who caused the fracas before we are allowed back to Kasarani. They also want to see to it that we are serious in ending the acts of hooliganism before we use their facilities again.”
He ruled out Thika stadium saying the terrain of the field was a bit rough and the club fears due to it being in constant use by teams its players will be exposed to injuries.

“In Nairobi, the fans who come to the stadium are few, much disorganised and want to watch our matches for free. Even in Thika they broke the gate.
I can confirm our next home matches will be in Kisumu and Kakamega. We will work with our branches to help fans turn out in huge numbers which translates to good revenue,” added Ochola.
Ochola further noted that the body in charge of Kenyan stadiums Sports Stadia has written to the club to pay Ksh1.2 million for damages. He, however, said the club would be challenging the fine.
“We are going to challenge some of the bills that were sent to us. The only damage our fans did was to the glass door,” said Ochola.
“That door cannot have been damaged to cost that amount of money. The said fight was actually outside the stadium not inside, so how can they tell us to repair things inside the stadium when the fight happened outside the gate stadium.”
As half-time, Winnie Nyar Kasagam, whose real name is Sheryl Aluoch, was photographed running across the stadium with a relatively large stone in her right hand.
Chaos rocked the FKF Premier League match at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani between the Green Army and the visiting Vihiga Bullets on February 13, this year.
By the time the game was being called off, Gor Mahia were one goal up, against Vihiga Bullets.
The chaos started when some of the football fans attempted to jump over the fence to avoid paying a Sh200 entrance fee.
This weekend, Gor Mahia will host four-time champions Ulinzi Stars at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
