Liverpool have made their first signing of 2022 - Porto star Luis Diaz.

The 25-year-old Colombian was manager Jurgen Klopp's first choice for the June-July window, but the Anfield club fast-tracked their plans due to strong interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Popular football journalist Fabrizio Romano shared an image on his Twitter page showing Diaz signing the Liverpool contracts captioned: Here’s new Liverpool signing Luís Diaz after completing first part of medical in Argentina, ready to pen his contract until June 2027. Agreement reached between clubs for €40m guaranteed fee upfront plus €20m add ons…”

The club has also made the announcement on its social media, welcoming the star attacker to the Kop.

Klopp revealed Diaz was a target he was happy to sign, even though they had originally planned to sign him after the end of the season.

“I have always been a believer in only signing players in January if you would want to sign them in the summer, and that’s very much the case with Luis. He is an outstanding player and someone we’ve been tracking for a very long time,” said Klopp.
