Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Nzoia Sugar on Friday appointed Salim Babu as their new head coach.

Nzoia Sugar confirmed the news by posting on their official social media pages.

“Meet our newly appointed head coach Salim Babu. He is officially ours,” read the caption that accompanied the social media post on Twitter.

Babu joins Nzoia from Kisumu All Stars who have posted mixed results in the National Super League (NSL) due to financial constraints that has seen the team struggle to honour games. All Stars have moved to appointed Evans Okech in an interim capacity.

His immediate task will be to help the club avoid relegation as he takes over the reins from caretaker coach Peter Gin who held briefly after head coach Ibrahim Shikanda ditched the club.

Shikanda walked out of the team citing frustrations leading to the club appointing former captain Peter Gin on interim basis.

Gin’s rein was fruitless after losing all his matches against KCB, Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Wazito and FC Talanta.

Nzoia are currently in the relegation zone at position 16th with 10 points.

The only sugar sponsored club in top flight currently has only won one match of the 16 games played. They have lost eight and drawn seven matches.
