Spain international striker Diego Costa has parted ways with Atletico Mineiro after just five months, the reigning Brazilian Serie A champions said on Sunday.

In a brief statement, Atletico said it parted ways with the Brazil-born 33-year-old by mutual consent, terminating a contract that had been due to expire in December this year.

"Thanks, Diego Costa. Good luck in the rest of your career," the Belo Horizonte club said.

Costa made 19 appearances and scored five goals for Atletico after joining the club on a free transfer in August.

Local media reported that the former Atletico Madrid and Chelsea player is in advanced talks regarding a possible move to Corinthians.

"Thank you for helping me to achieve my childhood dream of playing in Brazil and winning titles," Costa said in a statement on social media.

"I'm grateful to everybody at Atletico Mineiro ... [and] I wish you all the best in the future."
