Exactly a year since Ibrahim Shikanda was unveiled as the head coach for Nzoia Sugar FC after beating other experienced coaches like James Nandwa and Leonard Odipo to the job, the former player has parted ways with the Bungoma-based FKF Premier League side.

According to the sugar millers chairman Evans Kadenge, Shikanda was shown the door after absconding.

He said the tactician failed to travel with the team for their away league match against KCB in Nairobi on December 30. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. The former Kenyan international then missed Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Gor Mahia at Sudi Stadium.

The club says it is not aware of Shikanda’s whereabouts and has now made a decision to terminate the former NSL side Nairobi Stima and Bungoma Super Stars coach’s contract.

“I can confirm that we have parted ways with coach Ibrahim Shikanda after he absconded duty, we have written him a letter confirming the termination of his services. We are not aware of his whereabouts because he just vanished a day before we played KCB,” said Kadenge.

“He has not told us what his plans are and we have now decided to move on because this is a clear case of insubordination on his part.”

He said team manager John Muraya and assistant coach Eric Wasike will continue being in charge of the team as they look into the future.

Nzoia are set to take AFC Leopards in their next match on Saturday before clashing with Wazito on January 16.

Shikanda worked as assistant coach of Tanzanian side Azam for five years.
