Shikanda exit Nzoia Sugar as his deputy takes over

Nzoia Sugar FC have sacked Ibrahim Shikanda, with the club confirming the termination of his services.

The sacking comes a year after he was unveiled as the head coach for Nzoia Sugar FC after beating other experienced players James Nandwa and former KCB coach Leonard Odipo to the job.

Speaking with the Standard sports desk, the Millers vice-chairman Evans Kadenge said that Shikanda absconded the team’s duties.

He also noted that the tactician failed to travel with the team on 30th December last year during their match with KCB - a match that they went on to register a two-all draw against the Bankers despite trailing 2-0 .

Kadenge further added that Shikanda went missing on Wednesday when his team held Gor Mahia to a one-all draw at the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.

 The club said that they are not aware of his whereabouts and has now made a decision to part ways with the former NSL side Nairobi Stima and Bungoma Super Stars head coach.

“I can confirm that we have parted ways with Coach Ibrahim Shikanda after he abandoned duty, we have written him a letter confirming the termination of his services. We are not aware of his whereabouts because he just vanished a day before we played KCB, and he has not told us what his plans are ,” said Kadenge.

He further added that in the absence of Shikanda, team manager John Muraya and the assistant coach Eric Wasike will be in charge of the team as they look into the future.

“We have now decided to move on because this is a clear case of insubordination on his part," he said.

Nzoia will be taking on AFC Leopards on Saturday and on 16th January where they will play against Wazito FC.

 Shikanda worked as assistant coach of Tanzanian Premier League side Azam FC for five years before joining Bandari in the same capacity where he only served for five months.

Shikanda began his career in the youth side for Tusker FC and was 2003 promoted to the senior side. After two years for Tusker in the Kenyan Premier League, he joined league rival Mumias Sugar.

He left in summer 2007 his club Mumias Sugar to sign for Uganda's Rock Star. Shikanda signed for Azam FC at the beginning of 2008.

In 2012, Shikanda signed for up-and-coming Conference Premier side Kettering Town. 

Former Kenya defender Shikanda is a retired Kenyan soccer player.

The western-based charges have not been stable in the technical bench after the sacking of Collins Omondi at the beginning of last year.
