Newbies FC Talanta ended Kakamega Homeboyz 11-match unbeaten streak after narrowly defeating them 1-0 in a midweek FKF Premier League match played at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Former Gor Mahia striker Edwin Lavatsa’s goal in the 16th minute was enough to knock down the hosts who had not lost at their backyard in their past six home matches.

Heading to the match, Homeboyz were yet to lose a league match this season, they were the only remaining unbeaten side in the league.

Homeboyz were leading the log after 11 rounds with 25 points, three points above second placed KCB and 12 more than defending champions Tusker.

The unbeaten Kakamega side shocked champions Tusker and Gor Mahia 1-0 and 2-1 respectively before playing out to a 2-2 draw with AFC Leopards in their last three matches.

Talanta on the other hand were winless in three games after registering two draws and a defeat.

The 2020 National Super League champions were winless in their last three matches where they have lost once (2-0 to Posta Rangers) and drawn twice (identical 1-1 draws against Kariobangi Sharks and Leopards).

Victory propelled Talanta to joint fifth in the standings with Nairobi City Stars on 20 points.

Despite Homeboyz’s attempts to salvage something out of the game, they were kept at bay by the visitors who condemned them to their first defeat of the season.

Homeboyz dropped to second with 25 points.
