Nairobi, Kakamega and Kisii counties have all progressed to today’s quarterfinals of the ongoing Kenya Inter Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games in Embu after winning yesterday’s matches.

Nairobi secured their second consecutive match in the tournament after thrashing Murang’a as Kakamega humiliated Lap Fund 7-0, while Kisii beat Mombasa 3-1.

While Nairobi coach George Sunguti was impressed with his boys’ performance, his Kakamega counterpart Anthony ‘Ofek’ Okumu played down their title chances.

“So far I’m impressed with the performance. Though most of my players are making their debut in the competition, we are hoping to reach the finals,” Sunguti told Standard Sports.

Okumu said: “We have gotten the results that we wanted, but the competition seems to very stiff. It’s a bit too early to predict but the best team will win the title.”

In other results yesterday, Nakuru and Kiambu secured an identical 1-0 win over Bungoma and Kisumu respectively.

In women’s handball, Nairobi overcame Kericho 24-8 while Kajiado beat Kisumu 17-12 in a closely contested match.

Kiambu walloped Narok in straight sets in men’s volleyball as Uasin Gishu, Murang’a registered similar victories against Nyeri and Samburu respectively.

In their second match, Samburu lost by straight sets to Uasin Gishu.

In netball, Nairobi trounced Meru 38-9 as Bungoma beat Nyandarua 53-7.
