Newly promoted side Kenya Police will be seeking redemption when they host Gor Mahia today in an early FKF Premier League kickoff match at Kasarani Stadium.

Police have lost their last two matches against Tusker (2-1) and KCB (2-1) but new signing Clifton Miheso believes they have the quality to stop the record Kenyan champions.

Speaking to the Standard Sports yesterday, the former Gor Mahia winger said despite a tough start to the league they are focused and determined to his former club.

“We have respect for Gor Mahia. They have quality players who are in form but this is football. We have been training well the past few days and we believe a win today will really boost the team as we continue building the team’s chemistry going forward,” said Miheso.

Police are yet to hit the ground running in the top tier league after only registering one win out of their last five matches played. The law enforcers beat their fellow strugglers Nzoia Sugar 3-1.

They occupy 14th place on the log with a paltry three points. The Bob Ogolla trained side opened their season with a 1-0 loss to Kakamega Homeboyz before going down 2-0 to Nairobi City Stars followed by losses to Tusker and KCB.

Meanwhile, Wazito’s poor start to the 2021/22 season continued yesterday after losing 2-0 to KCB at Kasarani Stadium.

Derrick Otanga produced a man of the match performance with his brace inflicting a fourth defeat of the season on his former club as KCB went level on 11 points with fourth-placed Ulinzi Stars.

On the other hand, the defeat left Wazito, who are yet to win a single match this campaign, rooted in the relegation zone.

After six matches, Wazito have managed two identical 1-1 draws against newbies Talanta and Kariobangi Sharks and lost four games against Kakamega Homeboyz (1-0), Nairobi City Stars (3-1), Tusker (2-0) and now KCB.

“We played well against Wazito. The early goal helped us settle into the match and I am happy with the win. I know we missed a lot of chances but I believe if we continue working hard in training and executing our game plans goals will come,” said KCB coach Zedekiah Otieno after the match.

Other matches today will see Mathare United take on Bidco United, Nzoia Sugar hosting Posta Rangers and Nairobi City Stars entertaining bottom placed Vihiga United.
