The CAF Confederation match pitting Kenyan club Gor Mahia and Al Ahly Merowe of Sudan has been cancelled following the withdrawal of the visiting team.

According to a statement from Emad Shenouda, Manager of Interclubs Competitions, K’Ogalo have now qualified for the second preliminary round.

“Reference the above-mentioned match, we would like to inform you that the Sudanese federation have communicated the withdrawal of the club Ahly Merowe from the competition.

Accordingly, we hereby inform you that the match is cancelled and that Gor Mahia have been qualified to the Additional 2nd Preliminary round of the competition.

The host federation is kindly requested to proceed with the payment of all financial dues to the officials.

A detailed decision will be communicated to all concerned parties in due course,” read a statement. 

The clash was set to be played at the Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi at 4pm. 

K’Ogalo had already defeated the Sudanese side 3-1 in the first leg played last week at the New Suez Stadium in Egypt on Friday night.

The game was played in Suez, Egypt, as the Sudanese club did not have any approved stadia back home in Sudan.

Ahmed Saeed gave Merowe the lead four minutes before the half time break as K’Ogalo went to the break trailing by a goal.

In the final half, Gor emerged a much better side and it took them 10 minutes to restore parity through Sammy onyango’s penalty spot kick in the 55th minute.

At the hour mark, in form Benson Omalla gave the visitors the lead in the 66th minute after heading home from close range before Burundian striker Jules Ulimwengu sealed the victory in the 70th minute.
