Newbies Talanta on Saturday registered their first win in the FKF Premier League after beating their fellow newcomers Vihiga Bullets 2-0 at Kasarani Annex.

Brian Yakhama and substitute Edwin Lavatsa scored in each half to hand coach Ken Kenyatta his first win of the campaign.

Talanta, who were promoted to the top league after winning the National Super League last season, had played two matches, all which ended in a draw and headed into the match seeking a win.

Victory propels the newbies to eight in the standings with five points after three matches.

Furthermore, they remain unbeaten in the league ahead of their next fixture.

In the match, Vihiga started on the front foot with an early chance after mix up in the Talanta defence gifted Vincent Ogolla a chance to put the visitors ahead but his indecisiveness cost him a good chance to score first goal in the third minute.

Three minutes later, Talanta overlapping full-back Alvin Ochieng dribbles past three Vihiga Bullets defenders hut his final touch was intercepted for a fruitless corner.

In the 10th minute, Talanta were awarded a penalty after Jairo Michael was fouled in the box. Yakhama stepped up and scored from the spot to give the hosts an early narrow 1-0 lead.

Sixteen minutes later, Shella Mandela fouled Mike Isabwa at the edge of the 18-yard box. Isabwa took the resultant kick which forced Talanta goalkeeper Kevin Otieno to make a fingertip save.

In the final half, former Gor Mahia striker Edwin Lavatsa made an immediate impact from the bench after nodding past Billy Bukhala from an Evan's Maliachi's cross to seal the win.
