Wazito bounced back to winning ways after narrowly edging out bottom-placed Zoo Kericho 1-0 in a tight Football Kenya Federation Premier League match played at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Monday.

Erick Otieno's fifth-minute goal was enough to hand Francis Kimanzi his seventh win of the campaign as the money bags climbed up to joint fifth with Kariobangi Sharks in the league standings with 24 points.

Relegation bound Zoo Kericho’s run without a win continues after they registered their eighth loss of the season in the defeat to Wazito.

The Kericho based outfit remained rooted at the bottom of the 18-club log with three points they registered from their three draws so far in their 11 matches played.

Wazito headed to the Monday kick-off match in the wake of a draw and a loss in their last two matches and Otieno did well to give the visitors a deserved 1-0 lead five minutes into the match.

Otieno, who was handed his first start at Wazito by Kimanzi, repaid his boss’s faith after being set up by Whyvonne Isuza to beat Zoo’s goalkeeper Vincent Misikhu from close range.

Eight minutes later, Collins Neto wasted a glorious chance to pull Zoo level but Wazito goalkeeper Levis Opiyo denied him.

In the 17th minute, a similar chance befell Isuza who wasted a glorious opportunity to double the scores for Wazito after Musa Masika put him through with a fine pass which could only go wide.

At the half hour mark, Masika created another chance for Ali Hassan who failed to hit the target as Wazito took a 1-0 lead to the break.

Kimanzi would introduce former Gor Mahia winger Boniface Omondi for Masika after the restart in search of a second goal which they almost got when Isuza attempted to beet Zoo goalkeeper Misikhu from long range.

Kimanzi decided to add more firepower up front in the hour mark by bringing in Vincent Oburu and Michael Owino for Hassan and Otieno respectively.

The substitutions almost paid off minutes later as Oburu was denied twice in quick succession by Zoo keeper Misikhu.

Despite numerous attempts by Wazito to seal the game, Zoo shot stopper Misikhu kept the score line tight as Wazito held on to win 1-0.

Meanwhile, Mathare United will be seeking to return to winning ways when they take on the inform Nairobi City Stars today at Moi International Sports Center.

The Slum Boys have not won in their last two matches, losing 2-1 to new boys Bidco United and drawing 1-1 with Wazito.

City Stars on the other side seem to have rediscovered their super league form after registering two consecutive wins against Western Stima and Zoo Kericho.
