Former Argentina goalkeeper Pablo Cavallero has been charged with manslaughter after his involvement in a car crash.

A 57-year-old local, Juan Rivero, was hit by a car on Route 2 near Etcheverry in Argentina.

The man died at the scene despite ambulances being called from a nearby tollbooth on the motorway.

Police confiscated Cavallero's Volkswagen Tiguan pending an investigation into the car crash.

But reports in Argentina claim Cavallero has been charged with manslaughter for his part in the incident.

The 46-year-old is now sporting director at Argentine top-flight side Velez Sarsfield.

Cavallero was been travelling back from Velez's 2-0 win at Argentinos Juniors according to the report.

The goalkeeper began his playing career at Velez Sarsfield in 1995 where he played for four years before moving to Spanish side Espanyol.
