Marcos Rojo has finally secured a Manchester United transfer exit.

The Argentinian defender fell out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after he took over from Jose Mourinho and it soon became clear his days at Old Trafford were numbered.

But, according to ESPN, Rojo found out he had no future at the club in brutal fashion - after Solskjaer made the news public in a press conference.

With an option to extend his deal by another 12 months until 2022, Rojo was still yet to hear from United about whether it would be activated.

But Solskjaer informed press conference in January that the club had decided to allow him to leave.

It is alleged this happened before he had spoken to Rojo, and he discovered his fate when it was posted on social media.

“Both of them have contracts until the summer and they’re not going to be extended,” Solskjaer said of Rojo and Sergio Romero at the time.

“We’re looking for them to find clubs. Marcos has been given time to go home, so he’s still in Argentina.

“Sergio has been back home as well to see his family but they’re pros, working hard and ready if they call in for us. Marcos will have to travel and do the quarantine before.”

Rojo signed a permanent deal with Boca Juniors this week for an undisclosed fee after six-and-a-half years at United.

He said: "I want to take this opportunity to thank everybody at Manchester United who have helped me in the last six years.

"Since arriving in 2014 I have always felt privileged to be part of this incredible club with so much history.

"Thank you to all the fans who have always supported me when wearing the Manchester United jersey. Now begins a new chapter for me in my career but I will always have Manchester United in my heart."
