Kisumu Hot Stars narrowly edged out Migori Youth 1-0 in an entertaining match played on Saturday at Moi Stadium in Kisumu to increase their chances of earning promotion to the premier league next season.

Billy Byron Otieno scored the only goal of the match in the 12th minute after burying Steven Ochieng’s assist at the roof of the net.

Speaking after the match, Otieno who scored the match winner said he was delighted to help his team collect maximum points in what was a tough match.

“I am happy. The team is happy. We achieved our main goal of the match which was to win. Nothing makes me happier than helping my team win as we seek to achieve our greater goal of helping the team earn promotion,” Otieno said.

The win saw Hot Stars move to 13 points after eight matches played, keeping touch with leaders Kenya Police who have 15 points and a game in hand.

Elsewhere, Daniel Mutahi scored a last gasp goal as Gusii FC fought back to hold back Nairobi Stima to a 2-2 draw.

Anthony Ndolo had given Gusii the lead after 10 minutes before Stima leveled through Alex Lukanji two minutes later for a 1-1 draw at the break.

John Njoroge thought he had won the game for Stima in the 60th minute before Mutahi ensured Gusii earned the points with a goal from the spot.
