Kisumu All-Stars got back to winning ways after narrowly edging out rivals Kisumu Hot Stars 1-0 to emerge top in the Kisumu Dala Derby match played yesterday at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Seth Oyugi’s header in the second half was enough to hand the Salim Babu coached side a pivotal win as they continue pushing their promotion status.

Speaking after the win, All-Stars coach Salim Babu said he was happy with the win and congratulated his boys for showing their experience over their rivals.

The former Western Stima tactician revealed that their plan now is to create winning formulae and maintain consistency as they kick start their push to return to the premier league next season.

“Our main agenda this season is to win all of our home matches and ensure we are in a good position to return to the premier league. We have had a very good start which we want to maintain going forward.”

“If we can maintain our form, I believe by the time we reach midseason we will be at a better position of knowing where our fate lies. However, I would like to urge my players to keep fighting and training hard since I believe in their talent,” said Babu.

Kisumu Hot Stars coach Ezzy Obungu on his side rued early missed chances and endurance to have cost them their third loss of the campaign.

“We played well from the start but wasted two to three chances of going ahead. We need to be clinical going forward and we are going to work on that before our next outing,” Obungu said.

The tactician further added that they are going to come back stronger, saying the season is still early to call.

“This is the sixth outing of the league and we still have a very long way to go. We accept the result today but we are going to come back stronger next time,” he added.

Kisumu All-Stars were relegated to NSL after losing the KPL/NSL playoff to Vihiga United on penalties on November 4.

Hot Stars, who played in the Division One League last season, were handed a slot to the NSL after the disbandment of Chemelil Sugar due to massive financial constraints.
