Former Tottenham manager Pochettino appointed new PSG boss

Mauricio Pochettino has finally landed a new job in management after being confirmed as the new boss of Paris-Saint Germain.

The 48-year-old has been out of the game since last November when he was sacked by Tottenham following five-and-a-half years in charge.

But after Thomas Tuchel's departure from PSG was confirmed by the club earlier this week, it was announced that Pochettino would be the man to replace him on Saturday.

Pochettino spent three seasons as a player at the French giants between 2000-03, and will no doubt relish the chance to take charge of one of Europe's elite clubs.

There will be great expectations put on his shoulders as he tries to inspire PSG to their first-ever Champions League victory after they finished runners-up under Tuchel last season.

And he will also be under pressure to deliver a Ligue 1 title this season, with PSG currently third but only a point behind leaders Lyon and second-placed Lille.

Pochettino has yet to win a major trophy as a coach and finished runner-up with Spurs in the Champions League in 2019 and League Cup in 2015.

The appointment puts an end to the near-constant rumours linking Pochettino with roles at both Manchester United and Real Madrid.

There were suggestions that he would be the man to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if United's poor start to the season were to continue.

But the Red Devils are now level on points with league leaders Liverpool at the top of the Premier League, and Solskjaer's job appears secure for now at least.

Meanwhile, Pochettino has regularly described Madrid as his 'dream' job, but they appear to be keeping faith with Zinedine Zidane for now, and PSG appears to have been the most tempting offer available to Pochettino for the time being.

The Argentinean turned down offers from the likes of Benfica and Monaco before accepting the position at PSG.
