Manchester United have been dealt a blow with the news that their left-back Luke Shaw looks set to be ruled out for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury.

Shaw, who has impressed in recent weeks, was forced off in the 67th minute of his side's 3-1 win over Everton on Saturday and was replaced by Axel Tuanzebe.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was left fuming after the game, and blamed the loss of Shaw on the hectic fixture schedule.

And his mood is unlikely to have been improved with the latest news, with The Athletic reporting that Shaw will be missing for between four to six weeks.

It means after the international break he looks certain to be ruled out of United's Premier League games against West Brom, Southampton and West Ham as well as the Champions League clashes with Istanbul Basaksehir and PSG.

And in a worst-case scenario he could also be absent for RB Leipzig and the Manchester derby on December 12.

The good news is that new signing Alex Telles should be available after the international break after completing his mandatory self-isolation period following his positive coronavirus test.

He will almost certainly replace Shaw at left-back, but that will come as scant consolation to Solskjaer, who slammed the quick turnaround of games at full-time at Goodison Park.

"I said to you before, I want to talk to you about the kick-off time, before the game, and this has set up the boys to fail," Solskjaer said.

"We’ve got Luke Shaw injured today because we’ve been to Turkey, we’ve had loads of games this season already.

"And we’ve been to Turkey on Wednesday night, back Thursday morning and we’re playing Saturday, lunchtime kick-off?

"It’s an absolute shambles and I can’t praise the boys enough for that character they’ve shown. That’s all I want to talk about today."
