Thomas Partey will play no part in Ghana's upcoming fixtures and will remain at Arsenal over the international break due to a thigh injury.

Partey was seen clutching his leg at the end of the first half and emerged after the interval with ice on his thigh.

The 27-year-old had been set to link up with the national team for Ghana's two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with Sudan on Thursday and next Tuesday.

But Mikel Arteta cast doubt over Partey's involvement in those games after Arsenal's 3-0 loss to Villa.

"The doctor will have to have a look at him and probably scan him," Arteta said. "Then we will decide what to do with him.”

The Arsenal boss added: "We don't know [whether he will withdraw]. We have to scan him tomorrow or the day after and see what he felt straight away. Let's wait and see what the magnitude of the injury is.”

It appears early assessments of Partey's injury are more serious than Arteta had hoped, as Goal reports the former Atletico Madrid man will not be joining his international colleagues.

Instead, Partey will remain at Arsenal's London Colney training ground over the next two weeks as he faces a race to be fit for the trip to Leeds United next Sunday.

Partey was substituted against Villa with the Gunners 1-0 down after Bukayo Saka's own goal, while in his absence Arsenal let in two more goals thanks to Ollie Watkins' double.

The home defeat to Villa came one week after Partey impressed during the 1-0 victory at Manchester United. His dominant midfield performance helped the Gunners pick up their first win at Old Trafford in 14 years.
