Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire has not travelled to Paris for the Champions League clash against PSG, and Bruno Fernandes will take the armband

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed Bruno Fernandes will skipper Manchester United against Paris Saint-Germain.

Club captain Harry Maguire has not travelled to the French capital along with fellow absentees Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood.

Fernandes was set beside Solskjaer for the pre-match press conference, and was unaware he would be captain.

"The captain sits next to me. Bruno will captain the team tomorrow," said Solskjaer.

‘Bruno has definitely come in and had a great positive impact. The stats show that and his performances have been receiving great praise as well.

"He has come in and if not changed the team he’s sparked something in the team and I hope we've sparked something in his career. That was a turning point in our season last season and we hope from more to come."

Clearly surprised by the news, Fernandes said: "I was not expecting this. I found out this the same time as you!

"It is an honour and an important achievement for me. The captain is everyone – everyone needs to help, be a leader in their way.

"I think I’m playing well in the last few months but I have to improve and do better. I think I can do much better than before. I know my numbers are good but I’m sure I will do better numbers and games than before."

But Fernandes admitted his fiery temperament sometimes gets the better of him.

The Portuguese publicly denied a dressing-room bust-up with team-mates at half-time during Manchester United's 6-1 home defeat by Tottenham.

But the playmaker did admit his fiery nature can sometimes be too much.

“I think I grew up like this, you know," said Fernandes. “It's the way I have to be. Sometimes it's too much, but I think I can help the team with the way I am.

“All the players are different and you need all those characters to complete the team.”
