Footage shows Liverpool keeper Adrian was off his line for Abraham penalty shootout save

Liverpool won the Super Cup on Wednesday night in Istanbul after beating Chelsea 5-4 on penalties, but, Blues fans have noticed one problem with the penalty save.

Chelsea fans argued the penalty should have been retaken after Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian failed to place either one of his feet on the line in Liverpool’s Super Cup triumph over Chelsea.

VAR nonetheless reviewed the decision and the decision stood.

So why didn’t VAR intervene?

According ESPN’s Dale Johnson, Roberto Rosetti, who is UEFA's Chief Refereeing Officer, was briefed before the Super Cup that goalkeepers will only be penalised by VAR for leaving the goal line if it's a 'blatant' and 'clear' violation of the new law.

But in the above picture, Liverpool goalkeeper was clearly off his line before saving Tammy Abraham’s crucial spot-kick.

Dale Johnson further confirmed the confusing law changes.

‘’Change to penalty law seems a pointless exercise that has just led to more confusion. The previous law was both feet on the line, which was never penalised anyway,’’ he wrote.

‘’If you specifically change the law to one foot, you expect it to be enforced. If not, why bother changing it? Clarification on UEFA's VAR penalty rule after footage revealed Liverpool goalkeeper doing something illegal.’’
