Real Madrid have suffered a huge blow in their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe after the forward announced he will be staying with PSG.

The French youngster has been heavily linked with a move to the Spanish giants.

But despite PSG's recent elimination from the Champions League, Mbappe believes the club are on the right track to success and wants to be part of it.

Speaking to Telefoot, Mbappe said: "There are many people who doubt, but I will continue trusting in this project. I'll be here, that's for sure.

"With what has just happened, even before, I already knew."

Madrid have been hot on the heels of the 20-year-old for some time, showing interest even prior to his £166m move to PSG from Monaco.

Interest from the Los Blancos has only heightened following his stunning performances for France in the World Cup.

But now it appears Mbappe will stay with the French Ligue 1 side, for at least one more crack at European glory.

PSG were knocked out of the Champions League in devastating fashion after a late penalty earned Manchester United victory and saw them go through.

The French side have struggled to reach the latter stages of the competition in recent years, and Mbappe admitted the defeat was tough to take.

He added: "I'm stunned. I have not been able to sleep, it is difficult, we have worked hard to reach this moment, we are disappointed.

"We've ruined the party. The Champions League was our goal."
