Asec Mimosa defeated 08-Foundation 3-1 to lift the inaugural Double M Football bonanza after an entertaining match at Nakuru High School at the weekend.
Asec led 2-0 at half time through goals from Kennedy Owino and Kevin Mukhwana who inspired the winners to the well-deserved victory in the one-day tournament meant to tap talent at the grassroots and keep the youth busy during the festive season.
In the second half, Leonard Otieno put the match beyond the reach of the losers when he scored the third goal in the 67th minute before Enock Omwosa scored the consolation goal.
“It is a way of keeping the youth busy this festive season and assist local coaches scout talent. That‘s how former international striker Dennis Oliech’s talent was discovered before being signed by Kenyan Premier League side Mathare United,” Peter Macharia Murugu of Murugu Herbal Clinic, the sponsors of the tournament said.
As a result, Asec Mimosa received prize money of Sh50,000 and the losing finalists went home Sh30,000 richer.
