Everton shirt sponsors forced to delete tweet 'celebrating' Arsenal's 5-2 victory over Blues

Everton fans are appalled at their shirt sponsor Sport Pesa after the betting firm tweeted about Blues' 5-2 defeat to Arsenal at Goodison Park.

Goals from Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette proved pivotal as Everton continued their worst start to a season in nine years, with this latest reverse adding to the mounting pressure on Everton manager Ronald Koeman.

SportPesa's official Twitter account tweeted a congratulatory message to Arsenal captioned: “Well in #Gunners! A superb gift by the players for the birthday gaffer!”

So why were fans so angry at the seemingly sincere tweet that is reported to have originated from SportPesa's Kenyan Twitter account? After the game angry fans took to social media to vent their anger - in what looked like a betrayal to Everton  fans. Here are some of the selected reactions we found on Twitter:

A 7-goal thriller at Goodison Park! The #Toffees bagged 2 of them but it just wasn't meant to be. 2-5 the final score. #MadeOfWinners https://t.co/JExCzzONKN — SportPesa (@SportPesa) October 22, 2017

The tweet has since been deleted.

SportPesa took over from Chang Beer as Blues' official shirt sponsors at the start of the season.
