The German is in the final year of his current contract at the Emirates and according to the Independent, Jose Mourinho is keen on a reunion his former Real Madrid charge.

Contract talks between Ozil and the Gunners have reached an impasse and Mourinho is said to be confident he can use their previous working relationship to help facilitate a deal.

Mourinho and Ozil both joined Madrid in 2010 and have remained on good terms since.

Jose Mourinho has had a road named after him in his hometown of Setubal.

The Manchester United boss has used the international break to head back to Portugal and the place of his birth.

And it wasn't just any old trip as the Avenida Jose Mourinho was unveiled, in honour of the Portuguese boss.

Mourinho expressed his gratitude at the gesture and thanked the locals for keeping his feet on the ground despite his incredible career in management.

He said: "I come to Setubal because I love Setubal. Because my friends call me Ze and leave the 'Special One' bull****"
