Jesse Lingard lost his cool during England's draw with Slovenia after team-mate Marcus Rashford was grabbed by the throat.

Gareth Southgate's men drew 0-0 in Ljubljana on Tuesday night as they remained unbeaten in their World Cup qualifying campaign.

With minutes remaining, the two sets of players almost came to blows after a heavy challenge from Gary Cahill.

As the row escalated, substitute Rashford clashed with Aljaz Struna - who appeared to stick his fist into the throat of the Manchester United youngster.

Club-mate and close friend Lingard reacted furiously and immediately confronted the Slovenian defender.

He had to be pulled away as Joe Hart attempted to calm down the United youngster.

Referee Deniz Aytekin eventually managed to diffuse the situation before showing Lingard, Struna and Cahill the yellow card.

It is not the first time Lingard has leapt to the defence of close friend Rashford.

During last season's Manchester derby, Rashford clashed with Martin Demichelis after going to ground in the City area.

Several City defenders were quick to the scene to criticise the striker before Lingard provided some support.

Like any good friend, the 23-year-old has also been on hand to poke fun at Rashford.

He uploaded a hilarious Instagram story, trolling the striker for his impressive knack of scoring on his debuts for club and country.
