Paul Scholes has urged Jose Mourinho to play Michael Carrick alongside Paul Pogba - or bring in a "controlling midfielder".
The Frenchman has had a mixed start to his second spell at Manchester United following his £89m switch from Juventus.
Pogba has started all of United's Premier League matches alongside Marouane Fellaini but struggled in Saturday's Manchester derby defeat - leading to criticism from Jamie Carragher.
He was again disappointing in a more advanced role against Feyenoord and Scholes had some advice for Mourinho.

"He’s not the greatest controller of a football game. I think Mourinho will find the right partners for him," Scholes said on BT Sport.
"You have to remember he came from a brilliant team at Juventus. Andrea Pirlo and Claudio Marchisio could control the game and let him go and do his thing.
"I would like to see Michael Carrick with him. He needs a controlling midfielder next to him and Michael has got that.
"I think United need to go back in the transfer market for somebody like that. Michael is capable of it but United still need a controlling midfielder."
Following the defeat to Feyenoord, Scholes said: "It's been a struggle for him so far and tonight, again, wasn't his best performance.
"It will come because it is very early days but I don't know what position he is playing in. He seems to be a little bit all over the place at times.
"I think he is trying to do too much and beat three or four players. Just keep it simple.
"United didn't but Lionel Messi to go and beat five players and stick it in the top corner. They bought a powerful, strong midfield player and if he plays the right way, no one can live with him."
