Wales reached the quarter-finals of a European Championship for the first time in their history on Saturday as Gareth McAuley's own goal handed the Welsh a 1-0 victory over Northern Ireland.

McAuley diverted the ball into his own net from Real Madrid striker Gareth Bale's pacy cross in the 75th minute of an all-British clash that was short of goalscoring opportunities.
