Scores of Chemelil Sugar fans have lauded the club officials for staging the team’s final SportPesa Premier League match at Chemelil Sports Complex after a long absence of action at the millers’ ground.

The club also organised the match despite the club secretary JB Magare’s family bereavement. Magare’s wife, Everlyne Awuor, a high school teacher, was laid to rest on Friday, the same weekend the club hosted Mathare United.

The match ended 1-1. The club had not hosted a SPL match for the past seven months.

Speaking to FeverPitch after the match, the fans led by staunch club supporter Caleb Ochieng’, Fredrick Owino, Alfred Deya, Noelle Omondi, Maurice Ahoya, Andrew Baraza, Apollo Odongo, James Wanyama, Wesley Kiptoo, Alfred Mwanzu, Omondi Boda and Charles Onyango said the decision by club officials to refurbish the stadium will attract neighbouring Nationwide premier teams like Agro-Chemical FC to stage their home matches at the facility.

“The club did a sterling job despite the difficult situation. We condole with Magare and pray that the Lord’s providence fall on their family, including their daughter who is a candidate this year,” said Ochieng’’.

The millers’ last homeground match was against Tusker in a televised match seven months ago.

Chemelil Sugar stunned Mathare United with a 1-0 opener by Aloyce Mangi ‘Chuna’ and led during the first-half.

Mathare United eager to finish in the 2015 SPL top 8 bracket nearly spoiled the party for home fans with an equalizer after the break through Eric Johna Omollo as the hosts buttressed their fort to avoid an upset.

The players, technical bench and club officials led by the chairman Robert Nyakundi condoled with the Magare family.
