Injury-plagued French international midfielder Abou Diaby, released by Arsenal at the end of last season, has joined Marseille, the Ligue 1 club announced.

Diaby, 29, joined Arsenal from Auxerre in 2006, but his appearances were severely limited by a succession of injuries.

Capped 16 times by France, he is still regarded as a hugely talented player, even though he only made two appearances for Arsenal over the past two seasons.

Diaby was in talks with another Premier League side, West Brom, and even went as far as undergoing a medical but the deal fell through.
