Brendan Rodgers says it's up to Mario Balotelli whether his Liverpool career extends into a second season.

The £16million striker, who is surplus to requirements at Anfield, was left out of the squad for the tour of the Far East and Australia.

Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Jose Enrique have all spent the past 10 days training at Melwood but none of the unwanted trio appear in any great rush to move on.

The Italy international scored just four goals in 28 appearances following his move from AC Milan last summer.

“Mario is obviously not on tour but working hard and training well with a number of other players at Melwood,” Rodgers said.

Asked if Balotelli would still be a Liverpool player come the end of the transfer window, he added: “ I’m not sure, that will entirely be up to Mario."
