Kiambu Community and Nelador FC from Kikuyu will face off in the final of the Kiambu County Football tournament at Thika Stadium this weekend.

The two won their semi-final encounters held at Rironi Primary School grounds last weekend.

Kiambu Community from Kiambu sub-county overcame Lucky Boyz FC 2-1 from Kiambaa constituency in an entertaining match to advance.

In second semi-final duel, Nelador overcame Twinshooters FC from Githunguri's Ngewa Ward 4-3 in penalty shoot-outs. The teams drew at a 1-1 in regular time.

Efforts by Wycliffe Mbukaya, the Twinshooters goalkeeper to save his team from crashing out of the tournament did not work this time. The goal keeper saved all penalties against Superstrikers FC in the quarter-finals at Ruiru Stadium.

County Sports Secretary Machel Waikenda said the final will be preceded by the third place play offs between Twinshooters  and Lucky Boyz.

The champions, he said, will get Sh100,000 and a Sh50,000 voucher.  Runners-up will pocket Sh75,000 and a Sh25,000 worth voucher, while second runners up will take home Sh50,000 and a Sh25,000 shopping voucher.

Waikenda added that the winners will get a chance to be recruited into the Kiambu County All Stars team.

The tournament offered a platform to select players into the Kiambu County Football Academy to be put up by the county government in a bid to nurture footballer talent.

"The winners will be the first to join football academy and we will train the not only compete with teams from other counties, but also with clubs participating in the Kenyan Premier League," Waikenda told FeverPitch.

Waikenda said the tournament will now be an annual event in a bid to revive football in the vast Kiambu County.

The inaugural tournament, which has been going on for the past two months, saw 720 teams from 60 wards take part.
