Universities and Colleges Football League (UCFL) defending champions Zetech College enhanced their chances of retaining the title after successful a weekend.

Zetech reaped a maximum six points at the weekend after edging Nairobi Institute of Business Studies (Nibs Nairobi Campus) 1-0 before beating Nibs Ruiru Campus 2-1 in their next fixture at National Youth Service (NYS) headquarters in Ruaraka, Nairobi.

During the two victories, Nicholas Otieno was the man of the match, silencing Nibs Nairobi Campus with an early goal from a solo move that caught the opponent’s custodian unawares. Otieno was on the mark again in their match against Nibs Nairobi Campus, netting a brace to carry the day.

“After losing to former UCFL champions Kenya Polytechnic University College in our last match, we had to up our game to remain in title contention, we played well and won all our matches to go top of the league as we had planned,” said Zetech tactician Maurice Onyango.

“We now have to keep winning to remain on top of the league and retain the title we won last year in our debut entry to UCFL,” added Onyango.

BARREN DRAW

The wins pushed the UCFL defending champions to the top of the league with 12 points. Nibs Nairobi Campus  are second on 11 points.

In another UCFL match, hosts NYS Nairobi Holding Unit will blame themselves for holding Nibs Ruiru Campus to a barren draw in a match they would have easily won.

NYS Nairobi Holding Unit’s Dominic Mapena, George Kamau and Joel Odhiambo squandered open scoring chances with only the goalkeeper to beat to the disappointment of their fans and coach Harrison Oduya.

“I’m disappointed we have just let two points go away in a match we dominated and could have won easily,” said Oduya.

“My strikers became clumsy in front of goal and wasted good scoring chances, but we hope to rectify this in our next fixture,” he added after the match.
