Mayenje Santos qualify for the FKF division one league

Mayenje Santos lifted Busia County when they qualified for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Division One League after beating De La Sharks from Uasin Gishu 2-1 in the finals of the mini-league played at Mumboha Stadium in Luanda, Vihiga County on Sunday.

Mayenje which is coached by former Harambee Stars Under-20 coach Vince Ombiji took the lead in the third minute through Yassin Sije to make it 1-0 at halftime.

Stephen Bwire made it 2-0 in the 50th minute before Denis Shigami pulled one back for Sharks in the 72nd minute.

In the other match that was played on a knockout basis, Mayenje trounced Elimu FC from Kitale 3-1 with

Kevin Maloba (Yona) scoring a hat-trick.

Mayenje are hoping for another fairy tale run in Division One League to qualify for the  National Super League (NSL) and eventually for the Kenya Premier League.

Mayenje secretary, Thomas Ouma said the team is determined to produce another remarkable performance, noting that they have a budget of Sh5.8 million to enable them to participate without interruption.

" We are putting everything before God that what we require will be realized," he said, adding that the team is determined to bring glory to the county.

FKF Busia Branch chairman, Hillary Musindi who watched the final encounter thanked Mayenje for their splendid performance, exuding confidence that the county has what it takes to excel in Regional, Division Two and Division One Leagues.
